Addiction Treatment, It’s a Chronic Issue

One of the primary issues addressed is the treatment of opioid addiction as a chronic illness versus treatment as an acute illness, “Our health care system is currently organized to treat this addiction primarily with acute care services and the hope of abstinence upon discharge. Evidence tells us that this approach typically leads to treatment failures and re-admissions to acute detoxification services.”
